Larch
Larch Class is one of our Year 5 and 6 classes and follows our Pioneer and Trailblazer pathways. It is a specialist class for children with Autism as their primary need, offering a more bespoke learning environment with smaller class sizes and higher staff-to-pupil ratio.
Children follow a personalised curriculum based on the National Curriculum, taught in chronologically aged classes. Learning is more focused and structured in preparation for the next stage, while remaining practical, engaging and adapted to individual needs.
Staff use a Total Communication Approach, with support from our Speech and Langauge Therapy (SaLT) team and a range of therapist available in scholl when needed, to support communication, independence and progress.
Learning is enriched through whole-school themes, educational visits, themed days and special events. Children also access personalised activities such as rebound therapy, hydrotherapy, soft play, and light and sound sessions to support wellbeing and development.
A key part of this preparation includes the Year 6 residential visit and a dedicated PSHE week in the summer term, which support relationships, sex and health education (RSE), personal development and readiness for future transitions.
Larch Class provides a calm, nurturing and structured environment where children are supported to build confidence, independence and key life skills.
