Acorns
Acorns is one of our Year 3 and 4 classes and follows our Trailblazer pathway. It is a specialist class for children with Autism as their primary need, offering a more bespoke learning environment with smaller class sizes and a higher staff to pupil ratio.
Children are supported by a caring and experienced staff team who are skilled in working with children with special educational and medical needs. This higher level of support helps children feel safe, understood and ready to learn.
Staff work closely with the class teacher and use a Total Communication Approach, supported by our Speech and Langauge Therapy (SaLT) team and other specialists, to help each child communicate in the way that suits them best.
Children are taught in chronologically aged classes and follow a personalise curriculum based on the National Curriculum. Learning is adapted to meet individual needs and is practical, engaging and fun.
We use whole-school themes such as Journey into the Unknown, Our Amazing World and Superheroes: Super Me to make learning meaningful and enjoyable.
The classroom is bright, calm and welcoming, with access to outdoor learning. Some children also take part in personalised activities such as rebound therapy, hydrotherapy, softplay, light and sound sessions and horseriding, which support wellbeing and physical development.
Children enjoy educational visits, themed days and whole-school events that help bring learning to life. Acorns Class provides a nurturing and structured environment where children can build confidence, independence and skills at their own pace.
