David Reid and Maria Cook at the National Autism Hero Awards

David won a very prestigious award last Saturday night at the National Autism Hero Awards. David won the award for Education. Maria Cook, governor and Mum of Ryan, was also there to pick up an award for the voluntary work she does for Autism Sussex

Thank you all so much for your generosity and enthusiasm for the MacMillman bake sale. We had so many cakes that we kept the ones with a long date and we are doing it again today. We will let you know next week how much money we raised.

Help – our Diwali Celebrations are approaching and we need a volunteer to help with some cooking sessions with the children. You would be fully supported by the class teams, but we need your specialist knowledge and recipes. If you feel you could help please contact the office

Don’t forget the SALT Coffee Morning at school in the courtyard next Wednesday, from 9.00am – 11.00am. This is an ideal opportunity for you to meet with your child’s speech and language therapist. They will also be joined by Emma (physiotherapist) and Kate (OT).

We will be taking part in the Great African Welly Walk on Thursday 20th October to raise funds for Farm Africa. Farm Africa is a charity that supports farming families by teaching them how to grow more crops and make more money. The families are then able to spend the money on books and school uniform for their children. We will send home sponsor forms on Monday, and the children will need wellies at school on the day of the walk.

Parking is an on-going problem, and is particularly difficult at the moment with the building work in Lady Margaret Road. However – please be polite and considerate, and in particular don’t block the entrance/exit to the overflow car park or block off available spaces.

There will be a coffee morning at Southgate Primary School on Wednesday 12th October, 9.30am—11.30am run by West Sussex Autism and the Social Communication Team. The morning is aimed at offering advice to parents regarding using visual supports with your children. Contact Southgate school on 01293 525966 for more information.

The Autism Advice Roadshow will be in Crawley at the library on 8th November, between 10.am – 2pm. There will be a morning session (10.30 – 11.30) about internet safety and cyber bullying, followed at 12noon by a session about supporting siblings.

Autism Sussex will be holding activity sessions during half term. For more information contact Catherine Fitzgerald at catherine.fitzgerald@autismsussex.org.uk.
