Attendance Matters!!

Unauthorised absence and holidays during term time – I am sure you will appreciate how extended absence from school during term time can seriously disrupt your child/ren’s progress. There are only 190 days in the school year which means that there are 175 non-school days left for holidays, treats and shopping. It is in everybody’s interest to avoid the consequences of a child’s unlawful extended absence, and we can only teach a child that is here. If your child accrues 10 or more unauthorised absences (5 or more days) then a referral can be made to West Sussex County Council to consider what further action is appropriate. If your child is unwell, or not attending school for any other reason (ie. medical appt.) you must inform the school. If we haven’t been told the reason for absence we have no option than to record their absence as unauthorised.

If your child is unwell and can’t go swimming with their class they must stay at home. When the rest of the class are swimming there are no staff left in their classroom to supervise them.

Sickness and diarrhoea – to avoid the spread throughout the school children must remain at home until 48hrs after the last incident and they are eating and drinking normally.

Unless you have made a specific prior arrangement children may not be collected from school until at least 2.45pm. Early collections disrupt the class and your child is missing out on teaching time.  If you are collecting early a member of staff will bring your child to reception.
